A 47-year-old driver, Dominici Johnson, has been sentenced to three years in jail for lying about a crash that left a Spalding man with traumatic injuries.
Johnson fell asleep at the wheel of his Vauxhall Movano van on the A141 towards March in June 2023, drifting into the other carriageway and hitting a Suzuki Vitara. The Suzuki driver, a 56-year-old man from Spalding, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
Despite suffering only minor injuries, Johnson blamed the Suzuki driver for the crash during a police interview. However, an examination of both vehicles revealed that Johnson's van had been steering 40 degrees to the right and accelerated to 50mph prior to impact.
Johnson's actions led to severe consequences for the Suzuki driver, who was cut free from his car and hospitalized with traumatic injuries just two weeks after his wedding.
