A bipartisan group of lawmakers reported slight progress toward ending the government shutdown, which is set to become the longest in U.S. history.
Senators are nearing an agreement on a package of full-year appropriations bills for certain agencies and a stopgap bill to reopen the rest of the government.
"We're in a sensitive time right now. I don't want to characterize conversations,"said Gary Peters, D-Mich.
Lawmakers in both parties voiced mild hope of progress, but many details still need to be ironed out.
