A playdate between two neighbors in a Lancaster neighborhood turned tragic on Monday night when a 9-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the head at a home on Summitview Drive.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the basement of the home, where the boy reportedly found a firearm. The boy passed away on Friday at 12:50 a.m., according to the Lancaster police.
"My grandson shot himself in the head," the boy's grandfather told dispatchers in a 911 call. "Please come."
"You got to hurry," the boy's uncle said in a separate 911 call.
The Lancaster Police Department confirmed the incident and the boy's passing on Saturday, October 11.
