HOULTON, Maine — A Houlton man charged with kidnapping and gross sexual assault has been relocated to a supervised care home in Lewiston following a court-approved bail modification.

According to court records, Caleb Thompson, 21, who is autistic, was arrested on August 22 after his family reported to the Houlton Police Department that he allegedly detained a young woman with special needs for a week at his grandparents’ home on Madigan Street, during which he repeatedly assaulted her.

Family members reported to police that they believed he had held a young woman with special needs captive for a week.

On October 30, an Aroostook County grand jury indicted Thompson on five charges:

Initially, Justice Robert Langner set bail at $5,000 cash with Thompson placed under 24/7 home arrest and GPS supervision. On Monday, Langner approved an updated bail condition allowing him to stay temporarily at a DIRIGO Support Professionals facility in Lewiston, where he is monitored around the clock.
