An 18-year-old student at the University of Missouri, Maxwell Warren from Overland Park, Kansas, pleaded not guilty to multiple charges on Wednesday. He is currently held in Boone County Jail.
Warren appeared in court the same day his arrest warrant was issued to waive the formal reading of charges and entered a not guilty plea.
An MU spokesperson confirmed that Warren is prohibited from campus, classes, and all university activities.
Court documents from University of Missouri Police Officer Matthew Gaia state that on October 29, Warren met with a woman in her university residence hall room.
The woman reported concerns to police that Warren appeared under the influence of drugs based on his behavior.
The documents allege Warren choked the woman into unconsciousness for a few seconds after she rejected his sexual advances.
A probable cause statement by Officer Ashley Burry further supports the charges filed against Warren.
The case remains under investigation as legal proceedings continue.
Author’s summary: Maxwell Warren, an MU student, faces serious felony and misdemeanor charges for assault and burglary, and has been banned from the university while the case proceeds.
