Hilary Duff opened up about her years on the Disney Channel hit "Lizzie McGuire" and shared her thoughts on where the beloved characters ended up after the show. Speaking with podcaster Jake Shane on the “Therapuss” podcast, the 38-year-old artist reminisced about her time as Lizzie while promoting her new single “Mature.”
“I loved it. I had the best time,”
Duff said, reflecting on filming the series between 2001 and 2004. She recalled how “Lizzie McGuire” broke ratings records on Disney Channel, shaping how later shows were produced.
“It was complicated to understand at the time, but there was a formula for Disney Channel shows,”
she explained. Duff described how the network ordered a fixed number of episodes and followed a specific budget, keeping production consistent across series.
“I think one year we shot 30 episodes, and maybe the next one was 35,”
she added, highlighting the demanding pace of her early career.
When discussing the characters’ future, Duff dismissed the idea that Lizzie and Gordo became a lasting couple after the series.
“I think they had maybe an almost thing post,”
she said. Instead, Duff playfully suggested that Lizzie may have finally connected with Ethan Craft, portrayed by Clayton Snyder.
“Gordo is always there to pick up her pieces still,”
she concluded with a laugh.
Hilary Duff fondly revisits her Lizzie McGuire days, offering insight into Disney’s show formula and imagining where her characters’ lives might have gone next.
