Since 8:11 a.m. Wednesday, almost 600 customers in the Moss Park area have been without electricity. Toronto Hydro reports the power outage is expected to last until 3 p.m. Thursday, nearly 30 hours after it began.
The outage impacts customers between Queen Street E. and Jarvis Street to Parliament Street and Front Street E. Initially, over 1,000 customers lost power, with restoration originally set for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Toronto Hydro crews identified the cause as a suspected third-party dig-in at an active construction site, which damaged Hydro infrastructure. Spokesperson Brie Davis explained,
“The work that caused the dig-in is unrelated to Toronto Hydro but resulted in damage to our infrastructure. Repairing this damage required our crews to excavate 14 feet underground in order to access the impacted area.”
Crews worked overnight on repairs, but due to the complexity, the restoration was delayed. Davis added,
“We understand that being without power for an extended period is disruptive to daily life. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we complete these critical repairs safely.”
