Canon has introduced the EOS R6 Mark III, a camera that blends many features of the Canon EOS C50 with a form factor optimized for still photography. Despite this focus, it offers strong video capabilities.
The EOS R6 Mark III uses the same 32MP 3:2 full-frame sensor as the EOS C50, upgrading from the 24.2MP CMOS sensor in the R6 Mark II. Notably, this sensor does not incorporate Dual Gain Output (DGO) or a back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor found on models like the EOS C80, C400, and R3.
The camera is powered by the DIGIC DV 7 processor, shared with the EOS C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III, enabling advanced video processing and performance.
"It’s interesting to see that the R6 Mark III and C50 don’t feature a Back Illuminated Stacked sensor like the C80 and C400, and R3. One of the reasons a lot of companies are now utilizing back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensors is that they allow for better AF performance."
The R6 Mark III succeeds the R6 Mark II, which was unveiled over three years ago, following the original R6 launched in July 2020.
