Since 8:11 a.m. Wednesday, nearly 600 customers in Toronto's Moss Park area have experienced a power outage caused by an underground cable fault.
Toronto Hydro first reported the outage on November 5, 2025, at 10:26 p.m. and provided an update on November 6, 2025, at 10:34 a.m. The utility expects to restore power by 11:00 a.m. Thursday, more than 24 hours after the fault was identified.
Repairs revealed that the cable fault is linked to a suspected third-party dig-in at an active construction site near Moss Park.
“This work is unrelated to Toronto Hydro but appears to have damaged our infrastructure.”
The restoration is complicated due to the fault's location underground. Toronto Hydro described the repair work as “complex and time-consuming,” involving safe identification, repair, and thorough testing before power can be restored.
Toronto Hydro initially aimed to restore service by 8:30 a.m. Thursday but acknowledged that this was an estimate.
“Rest assured, our teams are doing everything possible to get the lights back on as soon as they can. We know this prolonged outage has been difficult, and we truly appreciate your patience.”
The utility remains committed to resolving the issue promptly and keeping customers informed.
Summary: A power outage in Toronto's Moss Park, caused by third-party damage to underground cables, has left nearly 600 customers without electricity for over 24 hours, with repairs underway but complex and time-consuming.
