Over 100 Calgary police and bylaw enforcement officers targeted the city’s downtown Wednesday as part of a coordinated enforcement crackdown focused on safety.
The one-day blitz, called Operation Order, redeployed officers from across Calgary to strengthen enforcement downtown. Its goal was to enhance public safety in key areas through strategic patrols, focused enforcement, community outreach, and referrals to support services.
Officers, community safety personnel, and transit peace officers patrolled priority zones enforcing bylaws and criminal laws related to drug use, possession, trafficking, and violence. They also sought to connect individuals to available support services.
“The initiative aims to enhance public safety in priority areas downtown through strategic patrols, focused enforcement, community outreach and referrals to support services,” the city stated in a news release.
This enforcement effort reflects Calgary’s commitment to a safer downtown by blending policing with community support.
