The Toronto Blue Jays, after falling short in the World Series, are expected to shake up their roster to return to contention next season. With several players entering free agency, the team faces tough decisions regarding contracts and future player roles.
Among those poised for free agency is shortstop Bo Bichette, who is expected to pursue a high-value deal among the league's top shortstops. While his offensive performance remains a major asset, defensive concerns and potential position changes could make the Blue Jays hesitant to match his price.
Should Bichette depart, Toronto will need a new superstar to pair with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Analyst Rymer predicts that Bichette’s exit is likely and suggests a trade target who could fill the void: Cleveland Guardians’ infielder José Ramírez.
“The Blue Jays reportedly attempted to trade for Ramírez back in 2022,” wrote Rymer. “They have gone on to bigger and better things since then, but they'll need to make splashes this winter if they want to maximize their odds of defending their AL pennant. A trade for Ramírez would soften the blow of Bo Bichette’s likely departure, and would give Vladimir Guerrero Jr. support in the lineup.”
According to Rymer, Cleveland would receive two top-100 prospects and a capable third-base replacement in Addison Barger, who enjoyed a breakout season at age 25. Ramírez, a seven-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger, would bring immediate star power to Toronto’s roster.
The Blue Jays may replace likely departing Bo Bichette by trading for José Ramírez, creating a new power duo with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for their next title run.
