A new cross-border passenger rail service linking Mohan Railway Station in Mengla County, Yunnan Province, with Boten Railway Station in Laos has started trial operations, according to the Mengla County Integrated Media Center.
This marks the first commuter-style international passenger line between China and Laos. The route offers five daily round trips in both directions, covering a 16-kilometer journey in roughly 50 minutes, with stops at the border ports for boarding and customs clearance.
Xia Mo, deputy general manager of Yunnan Tourism Co Ltd, stated that the company will follow the service principles of "safety, professionalism, and dedication" to provide passengers with "the convenience and warmth of this road of friendship."
The new connection integrates directly with the China–Laos Railway, facilitating smooth road-rail intermodal travel for international passengers. Officials expect this line to promote greater cross-border mobility and strengthen regional transportation links.
The newly launched China–Laos commuter rail line aims to streamline cross-border travel, enhance connectivity, and embody the growing cooperation between the two nations.
