Civil engineering firm Jacobs has expressed pride in contributing to the Neom port project Oxagon despite controversies concerning human rights in the region. Jacobs was appointed to provide technical and environmental advisory services to DataVolt as part of a $5bn (£3.8bn) contract aimed at creating a sustainable, net-zero data centre ecosystem.
DataVolt is developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) factory campus within Oxagon, which is Neom's advanced industrial city. Oxagon itself is a major megaproject designed to be a key manufacturing hub and port. Its strategic location offers access to the Suez Canal in the north—linking to the Mediterranean and Europe—and to the Red Sea in the south, facilitating exports to Africa and Asia.
Jacobs highlighted that the campus will operate entirely on renewable energy, integrating advanced cooling systems and energy-efficient architectural designs to reduce environmental impact. The facility is planned to function at net zero, contributing to growing global demands for AI data processing while minimizing carbon emissions.
Jacobs said the campus would “run entirely on renewable energy, using advanced cooling systems and energy-efficient architecture to reduce its environmental footprint. Designed to operate at net zero, the facility will help meet rising global demand for AI data processing while minimizing carbon emissions."
Jacobs is involved in Neom's Oxagon project to create a cutting-edge, net-zero AI data centre, supporting sustainable industrial development despite ongoing human rights concerns.
