The PGA Tour will not grant releases to any members competing in the LIV Golf Promotions event in Florida. LIV Golf officials likely hoped holding the event in the U.S. would make participation more attractive to tour pros, especially as the top two finishers earn LIV membership for 2026.

However, staging the qualifying event at Florida’s Black Diamond Resort from January 8–11 poses challenges for members of the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Champions, or PGA Tour Americas.

According to a PGA Tour spokesperson, "Because the LIV event is being played in North America, under PGA Tour regulations it is defined as an unauthorized event."

Any tour member competing in it is subject to disciplinary measures. Moreover, non-PGA Tour members who participate face a one-year ban from PGA Tour-sanctioned events, including Monday qualifiers and sponsor exemptions.

This announcement was confirmed by Golf Digest and comes shortly after LIV Golf unveiled plans for their third LIV Golf Promotions event.

Key points about the restrictions

Summary: The PGA Tour reinforces its opposition to the LIV Golf Promotions event, enforcing strict penalties on members and others participating in the Florida tournament scheduled for January 2026.
