The Boyle post office is moving to a new site early next year, with a new postmaster appointed. Paul Kelly Jnr from Kelly’s Supervalu Boyle has accepted the role of running the post office.
The post office will relocate from Shop Street to a vacant retail unit inside Kelly’s Supervalu Shopping Centre on Elphin Street, approximately 450 meters from the current site. The new facility is scheduled to open on February 3rd.
Last year, An Post hired auctioneers Cushman Wakefield to sell 14 town centre post office buildings, including the one in Boyle, with an asking price of €130,000. A condition of the sale was that the post office must continue operating in Boyle.
“Yes when we placed the former post office on the market we were doing so on the basis that it would remain as a post office. However, one could never rule out the new contractor giving up their contract, as happened here, not that new applicants would favour a new location,” said the An Post spokesperson.
“That’s what happened here and we have been lucky in coming up with an ideal new location and the chance to provide a new modern facility for the people of Boyle.”
Summary: Boyle's post office is relocating to Kelly’s Supervalu Shopping Centre with Paul Kelly Jnr as the new postmaster, offering a modern service while ensuring continuity amid property sale conditions.
