A reliable supply chain forms the backbone of every effective health system. Across Africa, however, gaps in infrastructure, fragmented logistics, and a lack of timely data continue to hinder the swift delivery of key healthcare essentials such as vaccines, diagnostics, medicines, nutrition supplies, and emergency kits.
To address these challenges, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and UNICEF have expanded their collaboration through a Joint Action Plan for 2024–2027. This partnership seeks to strengthen health supply chains across the continent, enhance Africa’s capacity to respond swiftly to public health crises, and guarantee more consistent access to critical health services and products for all communities.
As a central part of this joint initiative, the organizations will launch a new digital dashboard designed to map and monitor Africa’s health supply chain. This interactive tool aims to provide real-time insights, promote better coordination, and support data-driven decision-making for health logistics and emergency response.
“Strong supply chains save lives. When health products move efficiently, health systems thrive,” said Africa CDC Director-General Dr Jean Kaseya, praising the collaboration.
At the core of this partnership lies a flagship project known as the Continental Supply Chain Snapshot. This platform will help identify bottlenecks, optimize distribution, and strengthen supply resilience across the African continent.
