Korean heartthrob Ji Chang-wook takes on a role fueled by vengeance in the upcoming Disney+ original thriller, The Manipulated. This series is a unique film-to-series adaptation for Disney+ Korea, reuniting director Park Shin-woo and Ji to reimagine Park’s 2017 action hit Fabricated City.
At the center of the story is Tae-joong (Ji Chang-wook), an ordinary man whose life is devastated after being falsely accused of a violent crime. He soon learns the entire event was orchestrated by a mastermind, Yo-han (Do Kyung-soo), and begins a mission of revenge.
During a Seoul press conference, Park Shin-woo shared the reasoning behind casting Ji Chang-wook again. He said,
[translate:“When the idea of turning it into a drama first came up, Ji showed his willingness to join even before the script was written. I know he showed great affection for the project by waiting patiently for a long time.”]
[translate:“To me, it was a natural choice. Although it’s not a direct remake of the film, he did such an outstanding job that I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role.”]
Park also noted that the series format offers a narrative flow that a film could not fully explore.
The Manipulated promises an intense cat-and-mouse game between Tae-joong and Yo-han, bringing a fresh lens to a familiar story of false accusation and revenge.
Author’s summary: Ji Chang-wook stars in Disney+’s thrilling series The Manipulated, revisiting a powerful revenge story with a fresh narrative style under director Park Shin-woo.
