A legal dispute that started in 2019 over the use of the name “CARNATIC” between two South Indian restaurant brands has been conclusively resolved. A Delhi court affirmed Carnatic Cafe’s exclusive rights to the “CARNATIC” trademark, preventing a Bengaluru restaurant from using the name in any capacity.
The court found that the Bengaluru restaurant’s use of the name infringed upon Carnatic Cafe’s registered trademark. Carnatic Cafe, established in 2011, holds statutory rights to the brand name.
