Families in Khayelitsha and Makhaza have been forced to abandon their shacks due to raw sewage flowing through the streets and into their homes for two weeks.
The City of Cape Town attributes the issue to a blockage in the main sewer line, with manholes overflowing as a result.
Emergency contractors are working to excavate and reach the blockage, which is 5 meters below ground, and are using pumps to contain the overflow.
