Visible progress continues at the North Quays development in Waterford, where key elements such as the Sustainable Transport Bridge, the new train station, and the South Quays Plaza near the Clock Tower are taking shape.
The façade of the new train station is now clearly visible after the scaffolding was removed. Work is advancing on the northern plaza, which will include bus and car drop-off points and provide direct access to the South East Greenway. Installation of curbs and paving is already underway.
In the next few months, structural work on the station will conclude with roofing, rendering, paving, and interior installations. Despite these advances, extensive mechanical and electrical tasks remain before the station becomes operational.
The station can only open once it passes through all the independent safety and compliance checks, and those will continue all through 2026 and into 2027.
The station's official opening is projected for 2027.
The Sustainable Transport Bridge has now been fully secured, and its moveable sections function as intended. Contractors from BAM are routinely testing the opening and closing mechanisms to ensure reliability. Upcoming work will involve finishing surfaces, installing glass panels, railings, lighting, benches, and other architectural details.
The area surrounding the Clock Tower, part of the South Quays Plaza, is seeing growing activity as crews coordinate with other North Quays developments to create a cohesive urban space.
Construction at Waterford’s North Quays is advancing steadily, with the train station, sustainable bridge, and plaza all nearing key milestones ahead of an expected 2027 opening.
