First responders are actively battling a large fire at a warehouse in Baltimore’s Remington neighborhood. The blaze, which originated Friday afternoon, has been classified as a four-alarm fire, according to a spokesperson for the Baltimore City Fire Department.
The fire is raging in a commercial building located at the intersection of 23rd Street and Hampden Avenue. Fire department personnel are on site, supported by the Baltimore Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management.
Officials evacuated 23 residents from the 400 block of West 23rd Street, which consists of rowhomes adjacent to the burning warehouse. Fortunately, no injuries to civilians or firefighters have been reported.
Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace said, “All civilians are in good shape,” and emphasized that firefighters “100% saved the houses back here on 23rd Street.”
Chief Wallace praised the firefighters' bravery and tactics, noting their efforts to protect the neighboring homes despite dangerous conditions:
“These men and women absolutely risked their lives, got between this warehouse and those houses,” Wallace explained.
The warehouse is technically two separate addresses on Hampden Avenue, housing two different businesses.
